Hi All
I tried to contact Craig back in August with the email below but
unfortunately have had no response....
Is there anyone out in the larger dev community or BackupPC that may be able
to look into our request?
Regards
Stuart

Subject: BackupPC -proposal
Hi Craig
First off I would like to say what big fans we are of the BackupPC
application - we use it to backup linux servers and think it is great.
We would be interested to expand its capability to allow us to give end
users access to just their files - we have many users per server.
Currently BackupPC backs up the entire server (OS, apps and user files)
which is great for us as server admins but would love the ability to let end
users get into a restore backup screen which gives them access to just their
files with no visibility of the rest of the server.
All user files are held in a directory with the same name as their username
eg.
/home/username (is the usual setup in linux)
in our particular case all user directories are in the form:
/hsphere/local/home/username
We would want the users to be able to download the files as zip or tars but
probably wouldn't give them the option to do a direct restore to the server
from the web interface..
This would seem to be a case of cloning and adapting the existing restore
screen and creating a new class of user who is only able to see this new
'end user' screen in the menu selection. Obviously they would need to see
the same style directory tree for all files / directories within their own
top level home directory to choose which files/directories to download.
Do you think this is possible?? I realise that time is money so perhaps you
could give us an estimate of how much you would like as a donation towards
this brilliant opensource project to implement this functionality - which we
would obviously wish to share with the wider world in a future release of
BackupPC.
Ultimately we would love to build an addon to the hsphere hosting control
panel software to link into backupPC to make the two systems seem integrated
to the end user. But initially it would be great just to be able to give
users access to the backups of their files.
Look forward to hearing from you.
